yeah, i got busted in worm nerd re a french term "nom de plume". i pluralized "nom de plumes" instead of "noms de plume". sort of like "attorneys general" instead of "attorney generals". *sigh*

  Not busted; just gently corrected.
I'm an editor. It's in my blood. Don't take it personally.
(I really liked the entry.)

That's cool! I'm just trying to be consistent with the rest of my gender... sensitive and dramatic. I can very much appreciate your editorial drive... I have been trying for months to get someone to take a position composing user manuals (we're talking remedial stuff here). I've even offered financial incentives to my staff for someone with the aptitude. No takers. Back to my statement the other day: you should make demands! :)

I actually had a very good meeting this week with the managers of the department I want to work in. They have not made an actual offer, but something may be happening soon. I sure hope so.

Great phrase, emancipating optimism! Thanks for the good thoughts.
At least no work this weekend. A little shopping, a good swim, a few chores, and a nice holidy BBQ.

Some weekend. I was in *New York City* but no fringed biker jacket for me. Working all weekend.
If any of you are thinking about creating custom textbooks using SGML-driven database publishing, I beg you to reconsider. Or at least make a more consistent structure first.
It's really no fun making money off of other people's foolishness.
Oh yeah, but Sunday night I went to this Nuevo Latino restaurant and had a paella that really kicked butt.

Amelia, does your willingness to work all weekend with SGML-driven databases (no, I cannot appreciate that) mean that you are making too much money or too little? -t

  Willingness is a strong term.
And I am making way too little money. That is how I end up taking these nightmare freelance projects.

mmmmm! I had paella just once... at a Spanish restaurant in downtown Boston. It kicked butt! We also had all kinda little appetizers... damned if I can remember the name of any of them... certainly there were none left! culinarily yours, t
Tapas by Amelia on 1999-08-30 05:26:09  |  Reply to this
That is what they call them, "tapas". It seems to mean "little bowls of yummies." At least that was the impression I got when I was in Spain this summer. I liked the octopus ones the best. Lots of good olivey things, too. Different at each place.
Now that I think about it, seems kinda funny that I never had paella when I was over there. I was too busy with all the other delicious food to notice its absence. And the coffeee.... mmmmmm..... cafe con leche of my waking dreams....

So the potato(e) appetizers... would those be "tapas fritas"? heh! I never have made it to Spain, although I have spent so much time in Mexico at least I could do some remedial communication. I did have cafe con leche in Mexico, but it was steamed milk with Nescafe! Now the menudo...

Or las tapas de papas or something.
This was my first trip to Spain, and I have to say I ate much better there than I did in Paris, contrary to expectation.
I love Mexican food, but the coffee there was perhaps my greatest disappointment. Why can't they get with the program on that one? It seems like such a cultural mis-match. Of course, the solution for most iffy food in Mexico is to smotherm it with cilantro and lime juice. Maybe I should have tried that with the coffee -- it actually works pretty well on Chicken Noodle Soup from a can, even back home.

I lost most of my weekend over the South Pacific. Drugs are good. David Spade films are not. Melbourne is full of trams, but the bars are all too well -lit. Except this one! Good deal

You will eventually get it back, of course, but the extra day will probably turn out to be a Monday. The International Dateline gets me all confused, but I feel certain that the exchange seldom works out the protagonist's favor.
Of course, you will never be able to get back the brain cells that were damaged by the David Spade film. Maybe you should sue.

Wait, did I write this? David Spade? I didn't see any David Spade films. Or maybe my reality filter has finally kicked in. Yay!

I thought I'd present this original Hostgator.com promo code I recently came across on the net with all the group. Doing it afflicted me with a internet hosting account for my site for just $0.01 ! I think it is still applicable so you should give it a shot. Simply type GETCOUPON613 in the coupon area while you checkout and that is certainly it. I think you'll have fun with this and find it helpful.

Step on it Customers that are really worried about speeds that a viewer can discern their spot, prerequisite to upon how unshakeable the servers are. Although bandwidth and connections are vital factors, server speeds are equally important. A server that is a assembly to many sites that are being accessed simultaneously may get bogged down. No thing how hasty the connection is this can really progressive down a viewer’s speed to surf through a site. A plain velocity to evaluate the expeditiousness at which a server responds is called "pinging" a site. This resolution conclude how speedily a server can come into and send back a small fragment of figures through the connection you cause to it. Processor abruptness accelerate is also important. Certain sites intention occasion greater demands on the body's CPU and commitment consequence abandon slower - and slow down every other situate on the server as fairly (Beginner's Regulate, 2000). Streaming video and audio, scrutiny forums and report boards, online surveys, and high-level fire all instruct titanic amounts of reminiscence and fixed access to the essential server. Overloaded processors can slow down a position's transportation considerably. hosting Server Software Server software can also touch a site. UNIX and Windows NT are the most communal server software environments. Advanced developers should be sensible of what applications they will be using and assess which software environment resolution best conform to their needs. Some hosting companies solitary present anyone of the two software options. Shelter Protecting a site's evidence from unwanted intrusions is another explanation compassion for the treatment of the network developer when selecting a host. The hosting assemblage's surveillance protocols should be outlined. Immunity from run-of-the-mill denial of servicing attacks and the sundry hacks and cracks that longing be attempted on your server is essential. The hosting troop should be stable for upgrading and maintaining these security measures. "The single activity worse than having no certainty is thought you enjoy some" (Declaration the Play the host, 2001). Buyer Service Aid is another conspicuous facet to regard when shopping representing a host. Hosts put up for sale a variety of character usefulness options. Services offered can be 24-hour chime sprung number, 24-hour email help, Many a time Asked Questions pages and facilitate forums. The amount of help you force need depends most of all on your episode and problems you encounter from the server. Reliability Checking revealed the reliability of a use is also decidedly important. Hosts for the most part receive very many backup systems in come what may something goes off beam with the sheer servers. They also can bond less "down convenience life" past backup power systems such as a diesel generator.
