So Tater.... by d.- on 2001-08-29 12:33:18

Can we safely say that you DON'T sing the body electric? I concur with the COMPLETE inconvenience of having a body -- I never feel quite comfortable in mine anymore. It has to be fed and blah, blah, blah... it gets annoying, yes? Oh -- howz about tapioca pudding for that 'easy to chew' problem? Love ya!

Tapioca.... is this traditionally a US dish, as I have never encountered it. I somehow know the name, probably from some sit-com, but I have never encounter the delight first hand. What is it exactly, and do you know of any UK suppliers (preferably in the Northern area)... cheers.

Tapico is most certainly not rice pudding. Uncooked tapioca comes in little round white pellets of variable size. They are made from the starchy, edible rootstock of the cassava plant, a tuber native to the tropics. Similar to manioc. The tapioca pearls are soaked overnight in sweetened liquid and then cooked, which causes the starch to bind the mixture into a thick pudding. Small size tapioca pearls are sometimes used in fruit pies, as well, to thicken the juices given off by the fruits as they cook. No, really.

This is one of those rare times when I'm quite happy to be completely wrong, since it has led me to the knowledge of tapioca pearls. Why isn't this a breakfast cereal yet? Did we ever determine if pot noodles were essentially ramen? I forget.

Pot noodles are in essence, a mixture of re-hydrateable substance, flavoured with a rather nifty sauce. Nothing much more, but so simple if your as lazy in the kitchen as me. Why aren't parents allowed into work so they can cook their young ones a nice healthy meat and three veg meal? Hmmm

Right. "How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"
