...and for a moment, the whole earth stood still.... by Kid. on 2002-05-15 15:40:07

Did anybody see Zinedine Zidane's European Champion's Cup winning goal this evening? It was the most amazing strike in such a situation I can ever remember seeing, or hope to see in the future. Americans, tune into CNN, it may feature on a sports update...

My breath is still missing.

When I saw the title of this topic, i thought, OK, this is going to be from Kid about Zidane's goal! I know you too well, dude. I'm afraid all i could do when i saw the goal was scream at the top of my voice: Bloody Hell!!! It was amazing, the through ball, the cross, and the finish was breathtaking, you're right. Bring it on in the World Cup, bitch, but not against England please. At least our saviour is that at least France will have Barthez in net.

You were right, Kid... CNN did show it that night. They also mentioned that this bloke gets $70M US a year! (Hey, like the way I used your slang?!)

Imagine the quality of this goal. Then keep that quality running for 93 minutes, place it on the pitch with a good 15 other of the best players in the world, and that was the spectacle that was tonight's game. Truely an unforgettable game! I could watch it again and again and again, Zizou alone! Qual!

Indeed wash my good friend indeed. Its not often that Man Utd are TOTALLY outclassed for 60+ minutes of a game, but Real were pure class. Great game, shame they aren't all lkie that

It was pure genius. The kind of thing that makes you burn coffee...choke on a black jack....it was cavalier stuff. Irresistable. Just pure genius - especially Figo's goal. Barthez was like a flapping creature. A bird, maybe. Anyway. I've another comment to add to this subject.

I keep seeing this goal...it just gets better and better. I was discussing it with Matt earlier, and we were just enthusing even now, like 11 months on, it still ranks up there as moments of earth-stopping, jaw-dropping genius. I can't get over it. Probably never will. I've got an avi of it...I can just watch it over and over and over.

Bring on the second leg! Not that anything could outclass that game, mind! Lets just hope Man Utd get an (albeit unjust) 2-0 victory at their place in 2 weeks time to get em through to the next round. Though on that performance, i doubt 11 Supermen could keep a clean sheet and win by 2 goals against Zizou & co.

No offence to United, as I wish them no ill, but I'd rather see a Real team who can do anything any where any time go through than a Utd team who were, quite frankly, scared last night. Look at Beckham, Giggs and Scholes first half; look at how fast the players were to get into the box (See Raul's goal) and then question Gary Neville's positioning. No, for me, I want a Real-Barca game, and Real to win that. (I don't like Barca. I have massive Kluivert issues)

Yeah, but though they deserve it, i'm always one for the underdogs, especially when they're English. Even if it is Ringo's scum!
