So then Jaffa Nips (are you borrowing this name from a George Lucas character?), is the next topic to involve bangers? I feel so excluded and my feelings are hurting cause I'm 100% American ignorant about the fishies.

Hey, Johnny, if you want the finest in fish and starches, come to the Alabama coast for fresh fried mullet and grits. "It don't get no better!"

Now tommie, when does that mullet tossing event begin in Gulf Shores? The FloraBama is where the action takes place and i love most everything about this redneck fest. Yep, "It don't get no better then that", and the quitessential add on of "sugar" in the fine Alabaman speak I've grown to adore in that there neck of the southern American woods. I'll join ya if you'd have me!

Sorry, JohnnyG; this year's mullet toss has passed. They are held each year on the last full weekend of April, so now is the time to plan ahead for next year! It's best to plan ahead, because several thousand people attend. I, personally, don't go mainly because it's such a mess getting in and out of the FloraBama through all of those people. This really is a good cause, and lots of money is donated to local and state charities (esp the Alabama Boys and Girls Rances). From where I live (Daphne), the Florabama is about 25 miles away. If you come I will personally cook mullet and grits for you!

Awww shucks, I was looking forward to tossing a mullet with a 'mullet' hairdo to boot. Glad for the cause and it will have to wait til next April. A very good friend who resides in Chattanooga will be visiting Pensacola in a month. I may be able to finagle with the work schedule so as to drop in down yonder. I'll keep you posted and if the plans work out we will rendezvous at the Florabama. It'll be good to meet ya you ole galoot you!

I always quite liked the one near the Fat Cat in Norwich, originally named "The Chip Shop" with MASSIVE portions, a huge range, good curry sauce (is the key) and, and I think this is unique, there was an outdoor seating on the kerb. Just 4 huge bags of sand, but they were there, come rain or shine, generally rain for some reason. It was great.
