SATAN DRIVES TO WORK

  Now It's Dark

8 December 1998

4:13 PM: Jeez. This is a lot of trouble for the universe to go to just to keep me from going to see a play. First, yesterday, I get sick. Then today, the whole city has a blackout. It has my sympathy, too, I always used to hate blacking out. You always wonder what exactly it was that you did, and though it was probably nothing, it might have been something. Especially when what you do dimly remember is bad enough. Plus you always have those charming little mystery scars from when you had no nervous system. Like the Central Freeway.

It hardly mattered at all, though. The blackout, I mean. I woke up at just before 9 AM anyway. Thought, "Oh! Power's off. Good thing I woke up! Wow, I should get up soon. But I'm awfully tired. I'll just lay down for another minute or so."

So I left the house around, oh, 1:30 PM, only to (eventually) discover that MUNI was in a "State of Emergency" (no Bjork, tho, dang). We were left for a few minutes to figure out what that meant and how we would be able to tell, when the driver came back on and said "Probably we're not going anywhere for another 3 hours." Oh! That kind of emergency.

But even though I didn't get here until 3, I don't care - I'm going to be bad and just leave early! Yeah! And who knows, someone might even notice. Of course, getting there could be a risky proposition. We have to take BART under the bay and all. Plenty could go wrong down there...

No, I don't normally think of myself as self-centered - why do you ask?

Willfully blind self-indulgent nebbish or amusingly quirky old coot? And how bout that local sports team? Discuss among yourselves.

All names are fake, most places are real, the author is definitely unreliable but it's all in good fun. Yep.
