What laser thing that comes out of his finger?? (And which finger might that be?) I believe you are thinking of the Green Lantern.
I would like to see Superman devote some resources to a practical use of cold fusion.
I would also like to see him bully the Israelis into some peace concessions.

	He uses it in his ice palace thing when combating the aliens. The lazer emmitts from his first finger, I assume on both hands. The lazer can be absorbed and reflected by his native species. This is how superman managed to defeat the small smart one with the beard. A more cunning techniqu was used to defeat the big dumb one.
