Funny story - I got an e-mail through from one of my old housemates saying "We're going to Berlin with Ryanair. Do you want to join us. I spent a while working it out, and in the end said "Yes". On the phone the other day I thought I'd ask what inspired such a venture.

Apparently, my friend (who is the best Mathematician I know) finishes his exam on 27th January, and doesn't have anything to do until 7th February. My old housemate decided he ought to do something to celebrate, and looked on Ryanair and picked Berlin as it was somewhere no-one had been before.

I was a bit worried at first - but two of us have German A-Levels, and I'm excited about the non-hangover beer. Result all round I think.

In short, I have no real idea why we're going. As for the chocolate, I'll see what I can do.

-- and that's why I failed German?) I DO like the language for all it's metre-long words and gutteral intensity... you? As for speaking, how hard can it be to ask for beer?

I was trying for more, but I fell down saying "Why are we calling each other 'Sie' - don't we know one another better than that. Congratulations, though - its a wonderful hidden gift to have a language up your sleeve.

Enough, I think, though. As for my German, only time will tell if I can use it functionally, but I'm glad of this refresher.

So, no, I was never really good at German, and this comment will prove that. However, I seem to be able to...get by....if you will. I should be alright for three days, all going well.
